I defended my thesis in December! Which means I'm (sort of) done with grad school. Right now, I'm on the job market and looking for the right opportunity. I've also been working on a few independent projects that I didn't get to work on during my PhD! Among them:
- panoptiSDR - Using an off the shelf RTL-SDR dongle and an SBC, I'm playing around with a tool to do automatic FM demodulation + full-band scanning to automatically process active VHF/UHF FM signals. The goal is a tool that can automatically process live ham radio traffic, transcribe it with a small Whisper model, and then notify on important keywords (e.g. SOTA/POTA,etc.). Public repository coming soon.
- A handful of small VMs/emulators using new languages to get up-to-date. In particular, I've been learning Zig and it's a nice in-between for C++ and Rust so far.
- Brushing up on CUDA programming and design patterns. I've been on a journey to slowly walk down the stack and implement ML things at a more and more basic level.
- Learning how to pattern clothing and bags from scratch and building lots of prototypes of those, working on getting an ideal design for a custom ultralight backpacking bag.
